Evening @ The Barn

Gavin Lambert to Discuss Natalie Wood, & his Career

By Kay Tornborg

Gavin Lambert, who “probably knows more about the Golden Age of Hollywood than anyone else alive,” will do an Evening @ the Barn with film historian Robert Birchard conducting the interview on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the Hollywood Heritage Museum in the Lasky-DeMille Barn. They will discuss Lambert’s recently-published bio, Natalie Wood: A Life, and range over his long career as novelist, screenwriter, biographer and occasional actor and director. The recent LA Times review of Natalie Wood notes that Lambert “enjoyed extraordinary access to those who were close to Natalie and felt a commitment to telling her story straight, which he does in clean, honest prose. This promises to be her definitive biography.”

Lambert’s earlier screenwriting includes Inside Daisy Clover (a 1965 novel made into a film starring Natalie Wood), The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (1961) and I Never Promised You A Rose Garden (1977), to mention only the best-known of a long list. His short story collections include The Slide Area and The Goodbye People. In addition to the Natalie Wood bio there is Mostly About Lindsay Anderson and a novel, Norman’s Letter.

Following the question and answer period, Lambert will be signing Natalie Wood: A Life, available in the Museum shop.
