Arnold Schwartzman Shows LA Art Deco

The March 24 Evening @ The Barn featured Hollywood Heritage director, Academy Award winning filmmaker, and author, Arnold Schwartzman presenting a look at Los Angeles Art Deco. This evening was a bit like having a chauffeur-driven tour of LA on a really beautiful day when you, the passenger, are free to note every extraordinary building and its details. Arnold’s choice of slide images made the subject new all over again and his self-effacing, humorous tales of how or why he shot what he shot made the evening memorable. The narrative was occasionally punctuated with a guessing game of Do You Know Where This Is??? which only added to the fun. It was only two days later that this writer, walking in Hollywood, glanced at a building I’ve seen 100 times and suddenly realized I was looking at one of the evening’s slides, a Deco panel over a grill-covered window. Great fun to spot it on my own!

Following the slides, Arnold signed some of his books: Designage, Phono-Graphics and Flicks, all of which are available in the Museum shop.
