Gini Colvig

Visitors to the Hollywood Heritage Museum may be greeted by the alert eyes and merry smile of Gini Colvig, who was the first to sign up for volunteer duties.

Her well-dressed appearance betrays her many years as Accessories Buyer for an elegant I. Magnin-type Detroit shop. At that time, while still at Wayne University, she became advisor to the Junior Achievement Program, guiding young girls in appropriate wardrobe choices for business and otherwise.

Her considerable energies are now focused here, on Hollywood’s past and, especially, its present. A resident of nearby Whitley Heights since 1962, Gini has three times been president of the Whitley Heights Civic Association and served on its board for 23 years. For the last 25 years (!) she has also volunteered for the Motion Picture and Television Fund Auxiliary in their fabulous Cinema Glamour Shop on La Brea, which was founded by Mary Pickford.

Gini was married to Vance Colvig, son of Pinto Colvig who was the original Bozo the Clown for Capital Records. Vance became Bozo for KTLA. Father and son had long, successful careers in Hollywood; Pinto is especially remembered as the voice of Goofy, Pluto, various Dwarves and a long list of others. He also wrote the lyrics to "Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"

Gini is both home-body and traveler but she quickly notes she "...can’t sit around the house." When not decorating

or doing handcrafts she might be dashing off for a cruise or visits to friends around the country. Last year, she said, she traveled to "...five weddings, two baby showers and two funerals."

She says: "I believe Hollywood Heritage is an important and valuable addition to Hollywood and I am happy to be a new member."
